Mac iPhone, iPad and iPod products use a combined "TRRS" audio in and headphone out jack, therefore a dedicated cable is required to split out to an individual mic input, and headphone output.
The portable device will not be capable of supplying phantom power. RØDE mics that can be battery powered and have an XLR output can be used with the device via a split cable that has an XLR connector as the microphone input. RØDE Video Microphone products can all be used with a split cable that has a female 3.5mm (1.8") connector. RØDE do not supply these cables but they are available from third party vendors.
