Will specialist acoustic screens that go behind the microphone improve the vocal sound?

Screens that fit behind the microphone can help reduce the strength of sound reflections reaching the rear and side of the microphone and may also reduce the amount of the singers voice reaching the walls, which in turn reduces the strength of the reflections. In our experience, they are most effective when used in conjunction with sound absorbers placed behind the singer rather than on their own.
