What is THD?

THD stands for Total Harmonic Distortion, it is a measurement, usually given as a percentage, of the amount of distortion present in the signal that the audio equipment is producing.

 

It is generally accepted that the human ear cannot easily distinguish a THD level of below 1% and this is typically considered the upper level of acceptability when measuring audio equipment.
