The RØDE VideoMic Pro is a true shotgun microphone designed for use with camcorders, DSLR cameras and portable audio recorders as a source of primary and reference audio.
At the heart of the VideoMic Pro is a high resolution 1/2" condenser capsule that provides broadcast-quality audio via a 3.5mm minijack connector (outputting the mono signal to both left and right channels). A super-cardioid polar pattern ensures that surrounding audio is minimised, and your recording is focused on the subject in front of the camera.
An innovative suspension system separates the VideoMic Pro capsule and electronics from its mount, providing isolation from external physical factors that may cause unwanted rumble and vibrations in the microphone. A lightweight and flexible yet robust multi-strand cable provides significantly lower noise transference than traditional audio cable while ensuring a high definition signal.
Easily accessible on the rear face of the microphone are the power, filter and level controls. In addition to the microphone's native 40Hz-20kHz response a selectable high-pass filter at 80Hz is available, which will prevent low end noise such as air conditioners and traffic from being recorded.
Below these controls are the level settings, which attenuate or boost the recorded level as required. The -10dB level attenuation (or PAD) is ideal for recording loud sound sources, such as live music, motorsport, or interviews where the subject is very close to the camera. The +20dB level boost is designed for use with DSLR cameras, allowing the user to reduce the camera's preamp level (or mic-input level), effectively reducing the amount of noise generated by the camera's comparatively low quality audio circuitry.
The microphone uses a standard sized shoe mount for on camera use, and features a 3/8" thread in the base of the mount for easy boom pole mounting.
The VideoMic pro is battery powered, and provides over 70 hours recording from a single 9V battery.
The RØDE VideoMic is designed and made in Australia, and covered by RØDE Microphones' industry leading 10 year warranty.
From my first time using the RØDE VideoMic I was really impressed, it immediately became my on camera DSLR microphone of choice. Not any more, I am now using something that's even better. The new VideoMic Pro! It has taken what was good about the VideoMic and improved it in all areas. Size, features, suspension and most importantly the sound quality are hugely improved. This is a must have for any DSLR video shooters!
The VideoMic Pro is AWESOME. I own both the VideoMic and VideoMic Pro and the Pro model is such a nice upgrade. I particularly like the size and look of the Pro model but the sound is stellar. That's not to say that the VideoMic was bad...because it's not. It's like on a scale of 1 to 10, the VideoMic was a 9 and the Pro model is a 10. You guys hit a home run with this model and I get a lot of people asking questions about it when I'm shooting. Of course, I'm encouraging them to get one of their own. It's a great price for an excellent mic.(Customer Review)
The sound is a big improvement over the built-in mic on my Canon HF200 camcorder. I think this product is a winner.(Customer Review)
Let me say in the trials I have done with the VM Pro to use the good Aussie expression: "It's a bloody good mic!" I cannot express enough how good this is and that's why I ordered two!(Customer Review)
Been using the VideoMic Pro on a shoot in the US for the past two weeks and couldn't be more delighted! Absolutely fantastic product and couldn't be happier with it!(Customer Review)

It has been found that after some use in certain dry environments that the rubber in the bands of the VideoMic can dry out and start to squeak when rubbing on the plastic of the suspension mount. This noise is most apparent when moving the camera and microphone whilst recording.
The best option is to rub a little oil on the bands, lubricating them and minimising the contact adhesion they have with the mount. If this does not help, replacement bands are available to order from your local distributor, Please use our technical support page to find your nearest distributor.
We recommend an Alkaline or Lithium battery for the best possible battery life. All RØDE specifcations have been carried out using this type of battery. If you use a slightly lower power battery, the mic will work but may not meet our published specifcation.
Yes, all of our microphones in the VideoMic range have a standard 3/8 thread built into the bottom of the cold shoe mount for connection to a boompole, mic stand or tripod.
The Deadcat VideoMic Pro needs to be fit with the V cutout at the top of the mic, when pulled back the two tabs connect together over the top of the windshield, the microphone windshield stays attached to the microphone when fitting the Deadcat.
The RØDE cold shoe adaptor is a standard size adaptor, also known as a universal shoe mount. This standard shoe is suitable for the majority of camera attachments.
If your camera has a different, or custom adaptor, please contact your camera manufacturer for information on converters to fit the universal shoe connection.
The rubber shock bands are available to order as a pack through your local distributor. Please use our technical support page to find your nearest distributor.
The VideoMic Pro audio cable is designed with an ultra light, multi strand shielded dual core cable. This allows for far lower noise transference when compared to the older style cable used in many video microphones currently on the market. The chosen cable is incredibly strong and is rated to several thousand flex cycles, ensuring that the cable lasts a long, long time.
Of course if this is not enough, the VideoMic Pro comes with our industry leading 10 year warranty, ensuring complete piece of mind.
This is usually caused by the function of "Automatic Gain Control" or "AGC" on the camera.
Basically, when the camera cannot sense an audio input signal it automatically increases the gain of the input. It is increased so much that the noise floor in the camera microphone amplifier becomes audible .
The AGC can be disabled on some cameras and it is worth checking with you camera manufacturer for information on this, which can sometimes require a firmware update to the camera.
RØDE have created the VideoMic Pro to help combat this issue, the VideoMic Pro contains a 20dB pre amplifier, boosting the mic signal so that the camera will see a good signal level and not engage its AGC.
We recommend setting your audio levels manually to achieve an optimum signal to noise ratio and disabling the AGC of the camera.
